Chilunga: Bullets chair

A  cigarette manufacturing company which sponsors  Malawi's most prestigious football team, Big Bullets has told the club to end  the infighting which has taken centre stage in the executive  committee and follow chairperson Sam Chilunga if a K500 million sponsorship deal should be secure. Chairman  of Nyasa, Konrad Buckle  summoned an emergency meeting on  Monday at the company’s offices with the team’s trustees, main executive committee, supporters committee and the team’s captains and gave his demands to have Chilunga take control. He warned that if Chilunga is not in charge of Bullets,  Nyasa will withdraw its  package of K100 million annually for five years,. Buckle refused to comment on the issue, but expressed the hope that  “everything will be followed accordingly.” The sponsor has warned that they will pull out if the infighting does not stop. Bullets, twice champions of the country’s Super League and who command the biggest fan base spread throughout the tiny and soccer-mad southern African nation, has been without sponsorship for nine years since former president Bakili Muluzi sponsored them for two years. Most of the 16 teams in Malawi's poorly-run amateur super league are sponsored by the Army, Police and government. The rest are owned by private clubs.
